ALMA ho host Tom Vartabedian’s talk about his 50-year career

Tom Vartabedian, award-winning writer and photographer, will kick off the fall season at the Armenian Library and Museum of America (ALMA) with a talk about his 50-year career with The Haverhill Gazette and his work as a correspondent with the Armenian Press since the early 1960s, associated especially with The Armenian Weekly.

His column entitled, "Poor Tom's Almanac," is the oldest-running column in the Armenian Press. Vartabedian is also a regular contributor to other publications including The Armenian Mirror-Spectator, Armenian Reporter, USA Armenian Life and Asbarez. He will reminisce about some of his favorite stories -- both nostalgic and entertaining. An exhibit of his photojournalism images over the past five decades will be displayed, ALMA said in a press release.

The event is co-sponsored by Project SAVE Armenian Photograph Archives, Inc.

Vartabedian, born and raised in Somerville, studied journalism at Boston University. As a writer-photographer for The Haverhill Gazette, he garnered more than 50 awards from United Press International, Associated Press and New England Press Association before retiring in 2006.
