Russian, Chinese Presidents to meet Sept 5-6 in St. Petersburg

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on September 5-6 in St. Petersburg, the head of the Russian Security Council said Thursday, August 15, according to RIA Novosti.

Nikolai Patrushev said the meeting would take place on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Russia’s second-largest city and would be the second meeting this year between the Russian and Chinese leaders after Xi visited Moscow in March.

Patrushev met on Thursday with Chinese state councilor Yang Jiechi, who is currently on an official visit to Russia between August 14 and 16.

In late March, Putin and Xi oversaw the signing of a tentative agreement between Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation to cooperate in the annual supply of up to 30 billion cubic meters of gas to China. The countries also reached other deals on cooperation in banking, energy and rabbit husbandry.
