PACE Commission Considered Armenia's Human Rights Record
The PACE Human Rights Commission considered the human rights record in the Armenian Army, Armen Rustamyan, chair of the Standing Commission for Foreign Relations of the Armenian NA, PACE Armenian delegation member, told journalists. «During the session the general analysis of the human rights record in Europe was presented to the Commission. It touched upon the situation in Armenia. However, old facts on Armenia were presented to the Commission. PACE received several complaints from Witnesses of Jehovah sect, who pass alternative military service,» he said. Rustamyan added no decision was made by the Commission over the issue and merely registered the availability of complaints of that type. «This may result in the PACE organizing a study in Armenia. I think we should promote that type of research to present the actual state of affairs to the Council of Europe,» Rustamyan emphasized.
