Fried Did Not Say Whether Bush Will Use Term «Genocide» This Year
April 24, 2006 US President George Bush will make his annual speech on the tragic events in Ottoman Turkey in 1915, which resulted in death of 1.5 million people, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried stated in Yerevan. Fried answered nothing when asked, whether President Bush will properly acknowledge the genocide.

As of the hearsay on recall of US Ambassador to Armenia, the US State Department official remarked he did not see a respective document at the Department. In his turn John Evans only repeated the words, he said a fortnight ago, «I serve my President.»

At a meeting with California Armenian community members February 19, 2005 John Evans stated recognition of the Armenian Genocide is important. «Today I will call it Armenian Genocide,» Evans said. In the opinion of State Department officials, Evans did not have the right to make statements of the kind even in his personal capacity.
