Coldplay have returned with "Atlas" their new song from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack. The dreamy tune features a classic Coldplay presentation, with twinkling piano that builds as Chris Martin croons "I'll carry your world." The song arrives with a video that follows a shooting star coursing through the universe while tracing various constellations in the zodiac to the point of supernova.
Last November, Coldplay hinted that the band would be going on a three-year hiatus. "This is the last big show for three years or so," Chris Martin told an Australian crowd on their last tour stop. The band has kept its word, with "Atlas" being the only thing heard from the British band since then, The Rolling Stone said.
According to Digital Spy, the new track "Atlas" will be included on the film's soundtrack, which will be released to tie in with the highly-anticipated sequel in November.
The song marks the first time that the British band have recorded a song specifically for a film soundtrack.
"I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film," director Francis Lawrence recently said of Coldplay's involvement in the film.
"Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can't wait to share this music with audiences around the world."
Lionsgate's Head of Film Music Tracy McKnight added: "We are so honoured that Coldplay, one of the iconic rock bands of our generation, will perform the first song out on the new soundtrack."
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth - will hold its world premiere in London on November 11, 2013 and goes on general release on November 22.
