US and Turkey Hampered Recognition of Armenian Genocide by UN in 70s
Already in 70s of the 20th century US and Turkish Governments worked closely to prevent recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the UN. According to the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), lately unclassified documents of the US State Department show it. These documents mainly represent US State Department correspondence with the American delegation to the UN and Ambassador to Turkey and contain recommendations how to cooperate with the Turkish Government and the Turkish delegation to the UN not to admit recognition of the Armenian Genocide. «Documents shed light on the fact of close cooperation between the US and Turkish Governments in denial of the Armenian Genocide,» ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian said.
