"Gravity" extends its reign on North American box office for another week. The movie firmly holds the top spot for three consecutive weeks with an additional $31 million (down only 28%). It joins "Lee Daniels' The Butler" and "Fast and Furious 6" becoming the third film to top the list for three weeks in a row, AceShowbiz said.

With Oscar buzz and positive word of mouth, the film starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock added another solid $33.5 million outside the pond, amassing $114.2 million from its foreign ticket sales. It raked in a worldwide total of $284.8 million after just 17 days, with its domestic cume crossing an impressive $170.6 million.

The biggest debut this week is "Carrie". A remake of classic Halloween horror about telekinetic girl enters the chart at the third place with approximately $17 million, falling short of taking the second place from "Captain Phillips" which finished its second weekend with approximately $17.3 million.

The $30M-budgeted pic pairing Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore was initially projected to make a $20M debut. "While, of course, we would have liked more, 'Carrie' was made for a budget and certainly played within our expectations," said Sony president of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer.

"Escape Plan" flops at the fifth place with an estimated $9.8 million in its debut weekend, behind "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" which secures the fourth position with approximately $10.1M. The prison-set film led by Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger received "B+" CinemaScore.

Disney-DreamWorks' WikiLeaks drama "The Fifth Estate" directed by Bill Condon debuts at No. 8 with underwhelming $1.7M. "We're certainly disappointed by the results," Disney distribution head Dave Hollis said of the Benedict Cumbebatch starrer, "and we're still trying to figure out the 'whys'."
