Oscilloscope acquires Fantastic Fest-winning sci-fi thriller “Coherence”

Oscilloscope Laboratories acquired the domestic rights to Coherence, Deadline said.

A winner at this year’s Fantastic Fest, where Coherence premiered, the company plans to release the indie sci-fi thriller both theatrically and online next year after its festival run. The directorial debut of James Byrkit, the pic won the Next Wave Best Screenplay at Fantastic Fest in September.

The film follows an odd night of an astrological anomaly where a dinner party turns very strange for eight friends.

“Coherence is an incredibly smart, incredibly original, and incredibly impressive debut,” Oscilloscope’s David Laub and Dan Berger said in a statement.

“With hints of a low-budget sci-fi psychological thriller like Primer and a deep, engaging, and emotionally resonant take on interpersonal relationships channeling the depth of Woody Allen at his best, it’s without a doubt unlike anything we’ve seen previously.”
