Artur Baghdassaryan Positively Assesses Hrazdan HPP 5th Power Unit Selling
Armenian Parliament Speaker Artur Baghdassaryan gave a positive estimate to the selling of the 5th power-generating unit of the Hrazdan Heat Power Plant to Russia. "The selling should be viewed in a complex package," he told journalists in Yerevan. Artur Baghdassaryan noted the importance of the bargain from the viewpoint of economic and social expedience, since till 2009 the rise in gas price will be insignificant while electricity charges will remain unchanged.
"This is of great importance for the population and enterprises of Armenia," he underscored. The Speaker also said that the bargain will offer the possibility for direct investments totaling in $600 million to the Armenian energy sector. "Specifically, $150 million will be invested in the 5th power unit of the Hrazdan HPP. Armenia doesn't possess such funds," he remarked, reported Novosti-Armenia.
