President Serzh Sargsyan left for a 3-day visit to Vienna November 18.
Meetings with his Azeri and Austrian counterparts Ilham Aliev and Heinz Fischer are on the Armenian leader's agenda, according to presidential press service.
A meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents can give a new impetus to the solution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, a U.S. ambassador to OSCE said.
At the OSCE Permanent Council meeting, Daniel Baer welcomed the Presidents’ decision to meet and discuss further steps for the solution of the conflict.
“It is high time to turn words into actions. U.S., as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, will continue working with the conflicting parties towards the peaceful solution of the conflict,” he said.
Daniel Baer also hailed the mediatory work of the co-chairs and the Special Representative of OSCE Chairman-in-Office with the conflicting parties.
“There’s no alternative to negotiated, peaceful solution of the conflict,” he said, according to APA.
A meeting between the Armenian and Azeri Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev will take place November 19 in Vienna or Zurich, Hraparak daily said earlier citing own sources.
“Expectations from the meeting are not great, the latter being more of a nominal nature. The U.S. side seeks to reaffirm control over the negotiating process, also trying to prevent Russia from using the Ossetian-Abkhazian scenario,” the daily said.
At the meeting, Armenian side will insist on Karabakh’s involvement in the conflict settlement negotiations, the source said.
