Four new promotional images for Spike Lee's upcoming Oldboy remake have been released, Digital Spy said.

The artwork includes two references to the infamous hammer fight scene from Chan-wook Park's original film.

Based on Garon Tsuchiya's Japanese manga series, Oldboy tells the story of an advertising executive (played by Josh Brolin) who is mysteriously captured and kept in solitary confinement in a psuedo-prison.

After 20 years have passed, the man is set free without explanation and is given just five days to seek revenge on those who kidnapped him.

The tagline "Find the truth and make it hurt" is blazoned across one poster, whilst another shows tally marks on the back of Brolin's hand.

A third poster details the 20 years Brolin's character Joe Doucette spends trapped in a hotel-like room with a series of CCTV images.

The movie also stars Samuel L Jackson, Sharlto Copley and Elizabeth Olsen, whose character is featured standing alone in the rain in the fourth and final image.

Speaking about the film last year, Olsen told Digital Spy that it doesn't shirk away from showing scenes of extreme violence and described it as "crazy" in "a great way".

Brolin also admitted that he had sought permission from Chan-wook Park prior to embarking on the project.

"I emailed him... just asking for his blessing to do this movie.

"If he had said 'No,' I wouldn't have done it," he said.

Written by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor), the English-language version of Oldboy was produced by Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Nathan Kahane.

The film will be released in the US on November 27 and in the UK on December 6.
