Explosions heard at weapons depot in Libya

Explosions have been heard at a weapons depot in southern Libya with reports of casualties, according to BBC News.

State television said the depot at Brak al-Shati, near the city of Sabha, had been stormed by civilians, but this is not confirmed. The army says at least 10 people have died. In the eastern city of Benghazi, three soldiers have reportedly been killed in fighting with an armed group.

It is not yet clear which armed group the army was clashing with.

The government has struggled to certain militias in control of parts of Libya, and clashes between the army and militias in Benghazi are not uncommon.

The militias took part in the uprising that led to the fall of Col Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 but have been told by the interim government to disband or join the army by the end of the year.
