Colin Firth has denied claims he cried when he learned of his character's fate in the latest Bridget Jones novel, Digital Spy said.

The King's Speech actor insisted that he "took it in his stride" when author Helen Fielding contacted him about how Mark Darcy had died before the beginning of her third book Mad About the Boy.

"I've heard I that nearly wept or that I had to process it," he told Sky News. "I'm afraid I tend to find the demise of a fictional character doesn't run very deep."

Firth stated that he would be interested in reprising the role for a new film, following Fielding's hints that she may bring Darcy back from the dead.

"I'm always happy to be reincarnated, rejuvenated - a pair of electrodes - I would happily walk," he said.

Helen Fielding recently revealed that she is in favor of a third film being produced while Fith has commented that “there might be a long wait.”

Colin Firth will next be seen in the upcoming Devil's Knot, Before I Go to Sleep and The Secret Service, and in the title voice role for Paddington.
