Armenian President meets OSCE MG Co-chairs

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met Monday, Dec 16, with Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, ambassadors Igor Popov of Russia, James Warlick of the United States and Jacques Fore of France, as well as Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk to discuss the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

The mediators briefed on the outcomes of their visit to Baku and focused on the possibility to organize meetings on the presidential and ministerial levels in the future.

Earlier, the Co-chairs met with Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, who brought their attention to the recent killing of an Armenian soldier by Azeri armed forces targeting both military and civilians in frequent ceasefire violations, thus hampering the peace talks.

“The incident that left Hrant Poghosyan dead is another proof of continuing Azeri policy of ceasefire violation, despite the calls of the co-chairs, during their visit to Baku. Armenian armed forces will take harsh preventive measures,” the Armenian Defense Ministry said in a statement after the soldier's death.

There is no official information on whether the Co-chairs reacted to the Azerbaijani attack anyhow. One can only presume that they have hardly betrayed their policy of silence, which beefs up the Azeri aggression.
