Amazon's long-rumoured smartphone to launch early 2014: report

Amazon's long-rumoured smartphone may launch in early 2014, Digital Spy said.

According to DigiTimes sources, Primax Electronics has landed orders for compact camera modules (CCMs) for use in the smartphones, with a due date of early next year.

It is rumoured that the phone will feature floating touch technology, with each handset to be equipped with six CCMs for sensing movements.

Amazon has previously commented on releasing a smartphone, saying: "If we were to launch a phone in the future, it would not be free."

It has been claimed that HTC is designing a phone for Amazon, apparently featuring a 4.7-inch display.
