Pebble Steel smartwatch unveiled after Kickstarter success

Pebble, the company famous for its highly succesfull Kickstarter smartwatch campaign, is to introduce a new premium all-metal device called the Steel, Digital Spy reveals.

The watch takes the normal Pebble user interface and combines it with a machined metal body and a choice of either leather or metal straps. It will be priced at $250 and will go on sale on January 28.

Pebble's smartwatch saw immense success in 2013, gaining over $10 million in funding on Kickstarter and succeeding in shifting more than 300,000 units. The Steel hopes to expand Pebble's customer base to those looking for a more premium piece of wearable tech.

For those not familiar with Pebble, the smartwatch is capable of pairing with both iOS and Android devices and sharing notifications and music control from your smartphone to your wrist.

Unlike Samsung and Sony's devices, Pebble uses an e-ink screen which results in vastly improved battery life compared with competitors, Digital Spy said.
