“Game of Thrones” star Kit Harington to topline “Testament of Youth”

Kit Harington, the Game of Thrones actor who is also toplining the upcoming Pompeii, has signed on to star opposite Alicia Vikander in Testament of Youth, the adaptation of an autobiography of a woman’s experiences during World War I, The Hollywood Reporter said.

David Heyman, who last produced Gravity, is producing Youth, which is being made by BBC Films. James Kent, who has helmed episodes of Starz's The White Queen, is directing.

Youth, written by Vera Brittain and published in 1933, tells of how the author postponed her studies to Oxford to serve as a nurse in the Great War, during which she lost her fiance and brother. After the war, she tried to resume her life but found herself part of a lost generation, returning to Oxford and becoming a feminist and a writer.

Vikander is portraying Brittain; Harington will play her fiance.

Harington next appears in Pompeii, which opens Feb. 21. The period disaster movie is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and co-stars Emily Browning and Kiefer Sutherland. He also returns as Jon Snow in season four of HBO’s Game of Thrones, which premieres April 6. Later this month he will shoot Spooks, a spy thriller with Peter Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

The actor previously worked with Vikander in Seventh Son, Legendary's long-delayed fantasy that will open in February 2015.
