Consolidating its relationship with Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev and producer Alexander Rodnyansky, Paris-based Pyramide Intl. has secured world sales rights to Zvyagintsev and Rodnyansky’s follow-up to “Elena,” Variety reported.

Written by Zvygagintsev and Oleg Negin, and starring Alexey Serebryakov, Elena Lyadova and Vladimir Vdovichenkov, “Leviathan” is a modern retelling of the biblical story of Job, and deals with “some of contemporary Russia’s most important social issues,” but is also “a story of love and tragedy experienced by ordinary people,” said Eric Lagesse, Pyramide prexy. He added that “Leviathan” will be ready for Cannes.

“Leviathan” is shot near the White Sea in Russia, “a place of incredible beauty and power,” Rodnyansky said.
