Taiwanese firm unveils Android phone for Skype communications

LinkTel, a wholly owned subsidiary of PChome Online to operate Skype services in Taiwan, unveiled an Android 4.2 smartphone specifically for Skype communications, for immediate global launch through PChome Online's Taiwan, U.S. and global online shopping websites, DigiTimes reports.

The smartphone features an A20 dual-core 1GHz processor, 4.3-inch 800 by 480 touch screen, 2-megapixel front camera, 512MB RAM and 4GB ROM, dimensions of 129 (H) by 67 (W) by 10 (D)mm, and supports traditional Chinese and English. The smartphone will sell at NT$1,990 (US$66) in the Taiwan market. The smartphone can be used any place with Wi-Fi for free voice communications with Skype users, and voice communications with local telephone or mobile phone numbers at relatively low rates (through Skype credit points).

The smartphone is developed by LinkTel and produced by a China-based OEM.
