Sony comes on board Sacha Baron Cohen spy comedy “Grimsby”

Sony has come on board Sacha Baron Cohen’s spy comedy “Grimsby,” which had been developed at Paramount, Variety said.

The story follows a British black ops agent who is forced to go on the run with his long-lost brother, an English soccer hooligan. Sony plans to release “Grimsby” in the U.S. on July 31, 2015.

Variety reported in December that “Now You See Me” director Louis Leterrier had been attached as the “Grimsby” director. Baron Cohen and Phil Johnston sold the film as a pitch to Paramount last August; Peter Baynham is also writing.

Baron Cohen has also re-upped his first-look deal at Paramount for his Four by Two banner with a three-year term and a two-film commitment.
