Nike to launch self-lacing shoes next year: designer

A Nike designer has suggested that the sportswear giant will launch self-lacing shoes next year, Digital Spy said.

According to Sole Collector, Tinker Hatfield said that power laces similar to those seen in Back to the Future II will arrive in 2015.

"Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!" Hatfield said during an appearance at Jordan Brand's Flight Lab space, held in New Orleans on February 14.

Nike patented autolacing trainers in 2010, before auctioning off 1,500 pairs of Nike MAGs to the Michael J Fox Foundation, in honour of the actor's portrayal of Marty McFly in the 1989 movie.

Although the trainers featured an LED panel and Nike logo powered by a battery, they were not actually able to autolace.

The 2011 auction managed to raise almost $6 million, but self-lacing shoes could become more widely available next year.
