“Boardwalk Empire” actor joins Vince Vaughn thriller “Term Life”

Boardwalk Empire's Shea Whigham has joined the cast of Term Life, the Vince Vaughn-Hailee Steinfeld thriller being directed by Peter Billingsley, The Hollywood Reporter said.

PalmStar Media Capital and Merced Media are behind the adaptation of the Image Comics graphic novel, and Universal is distributing.

Term Life centers on a low-life (Vaughn) whom everybody -- including mob bosses, contract killers and dirty cops -- wants dead. In a rare act of selflessness (and desperation), he takes out a million-dollar life insurance policy to benefit his estranged daughter (Steinfeld), but soon after, he realizes it doesn't take effect for 21 days, meaning he'll have to keep himself alive for that long -- at least.

Whigham is playing a vice detective who is estranged from his own family.

Jonathan Banks, Bill Paxton, Mike Epps, William Levy and Jordi Molla are among those already cast in the production, which began shooting March 1.

Wild West Picture Show Productions' Victoria Vaugh, Micah Mason and Vince Vaughn are producing.

Whigham is best known for his work as Sheriff Eli Thompson on the acclaimed Boardwalk Empire, but he has also amassed an impressive list of feature credits in the past two years. He appeared in Fast & Furious 6, David O. Russell’s American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook, Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street and Non-Stop, last weekend’s No. 1 movie at the box office. And he also appeared in HBO’s hot series True Detective.
