Nicole Perlman, who co-wrote Marvel Studios' upcoming sci-fi adventure movie The Guardians of the Galaxy, has been tapped to adapt the first book of The Fire Sermon, a YA sci-fi trilogy for DreamWorks, The Hollywood Reporter said.

DreamWorks picked up the novel in 2013. The novel was written by Francesca Haig and so far only has a publishing deal for the U.K. via the HarperCollins imprint Voyager, in June 2013. (Voyager, the publisher of George R.R. Martin’s books in the U.K.., is eyeing a 2015 publishing date.)

Carla Hacken is producing the project.

The story is set centuries into a post-apocalyptic future in which humans are born in sets of twins, one perfect, the other with mutations. The mutations are segregated into separate settlements. The story centers on a brother-sister pair and what happens when the brother becomes the leader of one side.

Perlman hails from the Marvel Studios’ now-defunct writers program and worked on Galaxy among other projects. She wrote on Dr. Livingstone, an action drama set up at Fox with Shawn Levy attached to direct. Currently she is working on Terra Incognita, a secret project set up at Disney with Justin Springer producing.
