Paramount picks up Michael Bay’s science adventure thriller

Paramount has picked an untitled adventure pitch for Michael Bay to produce with his Platinum Dunes partners, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Tom Wheeler and Robbie Thompson are writing the project, which is a potential directing vehicle for Bay. Wheeler also will serve as a co-producer.

Plot details are being kept secret but the movie is described as a real science adventure thriller with an undersea component.

Wheeler was writer on Puss in Boots, DreamWorks Animation's popular Shrek spinoff, and wrote and created NBC's The Cape and ABC's Empire. He also wrote DWA's B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations, which will be voiced by Seth Rogen and Bill Murray and is set for a June 5, 2015, release.

Thompson worked with Wheeler when the former was a writer and executive story editor on Cape. He is a writer on CW's Supernatural.

Bay is prepping his latest directorial effort, Transformers: Age of Extinction, which opens June 27. Platinum Dunes is in post on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Welcome to Yesterday, its sci-fi found footage project. The company also is working on Purge: Anarchy and Ouija at Universal even as it expands into TV with the pirate series Black Sails, currently airing on Starz, and The Last Ship, which will premiere on TNT in June.
