Google's 8.9-inch Nexus tablet in the works?

Google is planning to launch an 8.9-inch Nexus tablet later this year, according to a report, Digital Spy reveals.

IHS Technology's director of tablet and monitor research Rhoda Alexander told CNET that the Android slate is likely to enter production in July or August.

The industry analyst claims that the Nexus 8.9 will be produced in relatively small quantities, with high specifications and a premium price tag to match.

HTC has been touted as manufacturing partner for the device, supporting rumours that the Taiwanese firm is planning to re-enter the tablet space.

Alexander went on to say that a third-generation model of the Google Nexus 7 tablet is in development, and will be released at some point in 2014.

Google is yet to officially confirm its plans for future Nexus hardware.
