After a 12-year absence, Chris Pine will return this summer to the Williamstown Theatre Festival, starring opposite Lauren Ambrose in a revival of Sam Shepard's two-hander Fool for Love, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Directed by Daniel Aukin, the 1983 play is a volatile match between two former lovers holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert as they tear each other apart over the many failings of their relationship while struggling to understand whether they can live apart. The production runs July 24 through Aug. 3 on the Nikos Stage.

This year's Williamstown lineup also includes Samuel D. Hunter's play A Great Wilderness, about the moral conflicts of the leader of a Christian retreat that aims to "cure" gay teens; and PigPen Theatre Co.'s lo-fi end-of-the-world spectacle with songs, The Old Man and the Old Moon.

The previously announced Main Stage lineup kicks off with Ring Lardner and George S. Kaufman's June Moon. Next up is the new musical Living on Love, by Joe DiPietro (Memphis) and Garson Kanin, based on Kanin's play Peccadillo. Kathleen Marshall directs the lyric soprano Renee Fleming in that production.

Also on the slate is Chita Rivera in John Doyle's production of the John Kander-Fred Ebb musical The Visit, which has a book by Terrence McNally.

Williamstown's 2012 production of The Elephant Man, starring Bradley Cooper, Patricia Clarkson and Alessandro Nivola, is scheduled to transfer to Broadway next fall, with Scott Ellis directing.
