The EU Advisory Group arranged and facilitated “The Crime Fighter’s Toolkit: How to Train Analysts” training course on March 24 -28.

The course was aimed at those law enforcement professionals who successfully completed the Basic Criminal Intelligence Analysis Course in February 2014. All of those selected for this training previously graduated from the introductory crime analysis course and are now equipped with the enhanced skills to train others.

EU Advisory Group policy advisor to law enforcement Steven David Brown said: “These officers form the nucleus of a potential and sustainable national capacity in crime analysis. They are pioneers of an approach that can offer new and enhanced insights into the detection and prevention of crime and help support decision making with scientific and robust evidence.”

Managing director of the Allan Consultancy, a leading international provider of analysis training and a former senior analyst with the National Criminal Intelligence Service (UK) and Europol Peter Allan conducted the training.

During the training participants had their memories refreshed on the key aspects of crime analysis, learnt basic methods and structures for teaching that material and practiced teaching in the classroom. The course provided a cadre of analysis trainers and helped the Republic of Armenia to establish a sustainable capacity in crime analysis for the future.

Crime analysis is not widely known in Armenia, but is a tool used by law enforcement in many countries and in international agencies like Europol and Interpol. Analysis gives operational or strategic value to data and information by identifying patterns and linkages between crimes and criminal behaviors so that smart choices can be made both in solving crime and in the deployment of police resources.
