Scott Caan replaces Shia LaBeouf in Bill Murray’s “Rock the Kasbah”

Scott Caan has replaced Shia LaBeouf in Bill Murray’s indie comedy “Rock the Kasbah”, Variety said.

LaBeouf had come on to the project in January after announcing that he was leaving public life due to “attacks against his artistic integrity.” Producers did not disclose why LaBeouf has departed.

Bill Block’s QED launched foreign sales at the European Film Market. Production will start in June with Barry Levinson directing from Mitch Glazer’s script. Bruce Willis, Zooey Deschanel, Kate Hudson and Danny McBride are also starring.

Block, Venture Forth’s Jacob Pechenik, Shangri-La Entertainment’s Steve Bing and Glazer will produce. Brian Grazer and Tom Freston are exec producing.

Story centers on a has-been rock manager who takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan. When he finds himself in Kabul, abandoned, penniless and without his passport, he discovers a young girl with an extraordinary voice and manages her through Afghanistan’s version of “American Idol.”
