Microsoft has issued a fix for an Xbox One security flaw that was brought to light by a 5-year-old boy from San Francisco.

Kristoffer von Hassel discovered that he could access his father's console by inputting the space bar several times on the password verification screen.

The youngster and his father, who works in computer security, reported the flaw to Microsoft and the computing giant quickly rolled out a fix.

Von Hassel was included in Microsoft's Security Researcher Acknowledgements and awarded $50, four free games and a year's subscription to Xbox Live for discovering the glitch, Digital Spy reports citing ABC News.

"We're always listening to our customers and thank them for bringing issues to our attention. We take security seriously at Xbox and fixed the issue as soon as we learned about it," said Microsoft in a statement.

Elsewhere, Microsoft recently divulged plans for future Xbox One updates, confirming that external storage, friend notifications and Kinect improvements are in the pipeline.
