EU hopes for progress in joint Armenia projects

European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, Štefan Füle delivered remarks on behalf of the President of the European Commission José Manuel Durão Barroso at the High Level Meeting on the 5th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership, New Europe reported.

"The European Commission throughout this mandate has remained steadfast in its dedication to the Eastern Partnership as well as to our enlargement policy."

Politically, financially and technically we have been supporting your domestic reforms in governance, justice, rule of law and economy. In total we have increased our financial support to 2.5 billion Euros for bilateral and regional programmes in support of the partnership objectives in 2010 to 2013. Our European Union budget for the next seven years ensures that we can continue to provide Eastern Europe with that support."

"We are hoping to have signed the full Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova and to make real progress on our joint ambition with Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the remarks said.

Also, according to Gazeta.ru, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov welcomed Armenia and Kirghizstan's joining the European Economic Union, with forming the union by January 1, 2015 on the agenda.

"The roadmap for Armenia's accession to the union is practically ready, with a final decision to be worked out soon," Lavrov said.
