Amazon’s comiXology unveils new app, ends purchases through iOS

comiXology has introduced a new app that no longer allows purchases through iOS, Digital Spy said .

The recent Amazon acquisition has cut Apple out of its payment plan, and will only sell digital comics directly through its own site.

Its 'new reader app' now only features reading functionality, with the old storefront removed.

Marvel, DC and Image's individual iOS apps do not appear to be affected at this time.

Existing users can sync the new app to their existing purchases after downloading.

Amazon announced its purchase of the digital comics platform last month, although these changes have been introduced ahead of the online retailer taking ownership of comiXology. The deal is expected to be completed within this quarter.

The removal of the the iOS storefront means that Apple will no longer receive a cut of comiXology's sales, potentially increasing the amount that publishers and creators earn from the platform.
