Helmer David Chase teases "Sopranos" prequel

Sopranos creator David Chase has discussed the possibility of reviving the show on the silver screen, Digital Spy reported.

Chase - who also served as executive producer on the HBO drama for the duration of its six-season run - said that he would need a "really great" concept to go forward with the project.

Speaking at a screening of the Sopranos pilot at the Museum of the Moving Image, he said: "A lot of people have talked to me about it. I still, frankly, flirt with the idea sometimes. If I had a really great way to do it, I would do maybe like a prequel." The Sopranos - which starred the late James Gandolfini as mobster Tony Soprano - drew to its conclusion in June 2007.

Speaking about the show's famously-ambiguous ending, Chase explained: "Well, [former HBO chairman] Chris Albrecht said, 'You should think about how much longer you want to do this show and we should have an ending.' That was about two or three years before.

"I mean, obviously [the finale] has echoes of the ending of the first season when they were all sitting in the restaurant. Other than that, I can't really say where the idea...it's just an idea."

"I wanted to create a suspenseful sequence," he added. "I didn't want people to be reading into it like The Da Vinci Code. It wasn't meant to confound anybody. It was meant to make you feel, not to make you think, but to make you feel."

It was recently announced that The Sopranos will be available to stream on Amazon Prime, alongside other HBO shows like Six Feet Under and The Wire.
