Roadside bombing kills 9 Afghan province

A roadside bombing has killed nine people and wounded two in Afghanistan's western Herat province, the Associated Press reports.

Provincial government spokesman Samih Wafa said the attack took place in the province's Shindand district around midnight on Tuesday, May 6, when the vehicle the victims were riding in hit the roadside bomb.

Wafa said all the victims are from the same family and were on their way from one village to another when the bomb exploded.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. It came hours after another roadside bombing in the province killed three policemen and wounded two others.
