Sony snaps up rights to Bertrand Bonello’s "Saint Laurent"

Making the first buy of a Cannes competition title, Sony Pictures Classics has snapped up North American rights to Bertrand Bonello’s Saint Laurent, a portrait of the famous French designer Yves Saint Laurent, starring Gaspard Ulliel, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The film, set to debut at the fest on May 17, was written by Bonello and Thomas Bidegain and also stars Lea Seydoux. It was produced by EuropaCorp and Mandarin Cinema and co-produced by Orange Studios, with EuropaCorp handling international sales.

“Sony Pictures Classics has since several months shown a real passion for our film and has a solid track record as a U.S. distributor in this category,” said EuropaCorp CEO Christophe Lambert.
