Angelina Jolie's “Maleficent” clip re-imagines iconic moment

One of the most iconic moments in cinema was re-imagined for Disney's live-action twist on their own 1959 classic, “Sleeping Beauty.” Angelina Jolie stars as Maleficent, the villainess who so despised Princess Aurora, here played by Elle Fanning, that she put a curse on her. The princess would prick her finger on the needle of a spinning wheel and fall into an eternal slumber, TheWrap said.

There's an added level of intrigue in the scene as it plays out in Walt Disney Pictures’ “Maleficent.” Interspersed with Aurora's slow, mesmerized walk toward the spinning wheel needle were scenes of Maleficent herself riding at breakneck speed toward the castle.

Was she rushing in to stop her own curse from being fulfilled, or did she have some other business to attend to at that exact moment? Answers are coming in just a few short weeks, as “Maleficent” will be released in theaters nationwide on May 30, 2014.

The film co-stars Sharlto Copley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, and Sam Riley. Written by Linda Wolverton, it was directed by Robert Stromberg and produced by Joe Roth.
