Steve Carell, Channing Tatum’s “Foxcatcher” debuts eerie teaser

The eerie teaser for Steve Carell-starrer “Foxcatcher” debuted on Monday, May 19 but, thanks to a prosthetic nose and aging makeup, Carell is just about unrecognizable, Variety said.

The actor stars as super-rich John du Pont, an heir to the DuPont Chemical fortune, and tells the true story of the mentally ill wrestling fanatic who was eventually convicted for murder.

Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo star as Olympic wrestling champions Mark and Dave Schultz, who du Pont chose to coach.

The film premiered this weekend at Cannes and reviews have been enormously positive.

Variety‘s Justin Chang called it “powerfully disturbing” and highlighted the performances of the three leading men. Carell’s performance has been singled out for praise, with the star taking a dramatic turn from his usual comedic fare, and generating Oscar buzz even at this early stage.

The film comes from Annapurna/Sony Pictures Classics and also stars Sienna Miller and Anthony Michael Hall. Bennett Miller directed, with E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman penning the script.

“Foxcatcher” is set to hit theaters Nov. 14.
