Lenovo has reported record-high sales across its PC, smartphone and tablet business, pushing its net profit to $817m, Digital Spy reported.

Despite industry-wide PC declines, the Chinese firm defied the odds selling 55 million PCs worldwide and even overtaking Apple in the US.

In the final quarter of 2013, the company shipped more PC devices to the US than Apple, helping Lenovo secure its place as the third biggest PC provider.

Its global PC market share rose to 17.7%, while the industry felt an 8% fall in sales overall.

Lenovo's tablets also performed well with 9.2 million sold, as well as 50 million mobile units - a number the company plans to increase by 69% with its recent purchase of Motorola.

"The record sales and profits that we delivered last year prove that Lenovo can grow and deliver its commitments, no matter the market conditions," Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing said.

"Not only did we strengthen our leading position in PCs, but we gained three points in tablets by quadrupling sales volume and became the fastest growing major smartphone company in the world."
