Tbilisi hosts 100th Vardaton fest to honor great Sayat Nova

Tbilisi celebrated the 100th fest of Vardaton to honor Sayat Nova, the great Armenian poet and musician. The May 25 celebratory events opened with a liturgy in St. Echmiadzin Church. Upon completion of the ceremony, numerous guests who arrived from all around the world bowed to celebrated Armenians buried Khojivank Pantheon.

Meanwhile, thousands of multinational quests were waiting for celebrations to begin outside Cathedral of St. George.

Delegations of the Writers’ Unions of Armenia and Georgia, Diaspora Ministry and French city of Marseille attended the events.

To honor an age-old tradition, Vardaton started with a rose-laying ceremony at Sayat Nova’s grave.

The jubilee events were organized by Hayartun center at Georgia’s Armenian Apostolic Church with the support of Petros Adamyan Tbilisi State Armenian Drama Theatre, Union of Armenian Writers of Georgia, Armenian Embassy in Georgia, Armenian Ministry of Culture, Tbilisi Municipality, sponsored by Hayartun board of trustees.

Sayat Nova Armenian minstrel song ensemble and Ksovrelebi performed at the event, along with actors of Petros Adamyan Drama Theater, reciters, solo singers and artists who arrived from various corners of Armenia and Georgia.
