Sony acquires Wim Wenders, Juliano Ribeiro Salgado’s “Salt of the Earth”

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado’s “The Salt of the Earth”, which won Un Certain Regard’s Special Prize Award at the Cannes Film Festival, Variety reported.

The documentary examines the life and work of Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado, who travels the world to shoot natural phenomena, through the eyes of his son and co-director Wenders.

Co-director Wim Wenders said, “I’m very happy that my long-lasting relation with Sony Pictures Classics can continue now with ‘The Salt of the Earth.’”

“We are overjoyed to be back in business with the master, Wim Wenders, and to discover the work of Juliano Ribeiro Salgado,” said Sony Pictures Classics.

The docu marks the 10th film the distrib has been associated with during the festival, including Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher,” Mike Leigh’s “Mr. Turner,” “Wild Tales” and “Leviathan.”
