Economy Minister refutes Armenia-Karabakh customs point rumors

The Minister of Economy refuted rumors suggesting establishment of a customs point between Armenia and Karabakh, Tert.am reported.

“The two states are not taking any steps now nor do they intend to do so,” Karen Chshmarityan said.

Chshmarityan also noted that Armenia won’t be joining the Eurasian Economic Union together with Nagorno Karabakh, as was the case with the UN or CIS.

“Karabakh-manufactured products will have free access to our market, as well as markets of CIS and EU states,” the Minister said noting that letters by third states should not become a reason for concern.

At the May 29 meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev cited a letter by Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, saying that Armenia should be admitted to the Union only within its United Nations-recognized borders, i.e. without the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
