Microsoft has rolled out a software update for its Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets, Digital Spy said.

The previous-generation slates have gained a raft of new features, including better battery life and smoother performance.

The update comes less than a month after Microsoft unveiled the latest addition to its tablet line, the Surface Pro 3.

Microsoft slashed the price of its Surface 2 line following the launch of the third-generation device, offering savings of up to $250 through its online store.
