"Pan's Labyrinth" helmer quits "Beauty and the Beast" remake

Guillermo del Toro has quit as director of upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast remake Beauty due to other work commitments, Digital Spy said.

The Pan's Labyrinth director's retelling of the classic fairy tale has Emma Watson attached to star.

However, Deadline reports that del Toro has now withdrawn as director but will still produce with Denise DiNovi, while he also wrote the script.

Warner Bros has already started the process of finding a new director.

Meanwhile, Twilight's Bill Condon will also bring Beauty and the Beast back to the big screen in another live-action project at Disney.

Disney's animated version of Beauty and the Beast drew an estimated $425 million worldwide back in 1991.
