The Best of Festival award of $2,000 went to Yatao Li’s “Carry On” the story of a Chinese father who does whatever he can to save his family during the brutal withdrawal of Japanese forces at the end of WWII. Other juried awards included best animation short to “Los Rosales,” by Daniel Ferreira, live action short over 15 minutes to “That Music” from Dario Vejarano, live action short under 15 minutes to “The Chicken” by Una Gunjak and documentary short to “Joanna,” directed by Aneta Kopacz.

Filmmakers from 37 countries attended the fest, which celebrated its anniversary with a party Saturday June 21 night at the Hard Rock Hotel.

“Our audience, filmmaker and industry attendance all soared, as did the striking talent we were able to showcase during our 20th anniversary year,” said festival director Kathleen McInnis.
