Twitter buys Snappy TV social television service

Twitter has acquired social television platform Snappy TV, Digital Spy said.

The service, which already has deals in place with Fox, enables companies to quickly edit and share clips from live broadcasts over the internet.

Twitter claims that it is planning to use Snappy TV to bolster its position as a leading companion service for live events and broadcast media.

SnappyTV currently lists Twitter competitors Facebook and YouTube as sharing options, but it is unclear whether these will be given the boot following the buyout.

Twitter bolstered its video sharing features earlier this week with the introduction of GIF support to its web and mobile services.
