Fox to co-finance Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks’ Cold War spy thriller

Twentieth Century Fox has come on board to co-finance director Steven Spielberg's untitled Cold War spy thriller starring Tom Hanks, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The project reunites DreamWorks and Fox, which worked together on Lincoln. Disney, DreamWorks' partner, will handle domestic distribution duties, while Fox will release the thriller internationally.

News of Fox's involvement comes only days after Disney set a release date of Oct. 16, 2015, for the movie, which is Spielberg's next film. Joel and Ethan Coen drafted the latest version of the script, based on an original script by Matt Charman.

Spielberg is producing alongside Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger. Daniel Lupi and Adam Somner will executive produce.

The untitled film is based on the true story of James Donovan, an attorney who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near impossible mission to negotiate the release of a captured American U2 pilot.
