Mythology Entertainment’s Brad Fischer and James Vanderbilt are developing “Blackout” based on the true story of a serial killer in 1940-1941 in Nazi Germany, Variety said.

Mythology has acquired movie rights to “A Serial Killer in Nazi Berlin: The Chilling True Story of the S-Bahn Murderer” written by Scott Andrew Selby and published by Berkley Books, a division of Penguin Publishing. Mythology’s Jon Silk, who brought the project in, will executive produce and oversee “Blackout.”

Mythology has hired Mark Hogan to adapt the book. He most recently wrote “Devil” for Construction Films with Dennis Gansel directing.

The story centers on the hunt for a serial killer in the heart of the Third Reich, and the relentless detective who must confront his own murderous regime in order to catch the killer. With Berlin firmly in the grip of panic as British bombers raided the city by night, the government implemented a blackout at night with the only light coming from the phosphorous paint on every street corner, bus and commuter train.

Mythology, which produced “White House Down,” is developing another project about the Third Reich — “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist,” based on the book by Jack El-Hai about Hermann Goering’s stay at an American-run detention center after his capture. Vanderbilt is writing the screenplay adaptation.

Mythology is in post-production on a documentary about Suge Knight for Showtime and is developing “The Brigands of Rattleborge” with Chan Wook Park attached to direct, and “The Shining” prequel “The Overlook Hotel,” written by Glen Mazzara. It’s also developing “Altered Carbon” based on the Richard Morgan science fiction novel with Mythology partner Laeta Kalogridis and David H. Goodman are adapting.

Fischer and Vanderbilt were producers on 2007′s serial-killer thriller “Zodiac,” directed by David Fincher and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr.
