Former prime minister Tigran Sargsyan was appointed by President Serzh Sargsyan as ambassador to the United States with residence in Washington, ARKA reported.
He was awarded by the president the degree of ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary. He is replacing Tatul Margaryan. Tigran Sargsyan resigned as prime minister on April 3, 2014. He was replaced by parliament speaker Hovik Abrahamyan.
Sargsyan served as prime minister from April 9, 2008 to April 2013. Before that he served as governor of the Central Bank.
Sargsyan was born on January 29, 1960 in Vanadzor. In 1980 he graduated from the Institute of National Economy in Yerevan. He continued his studies in Russia graduating in 1983 from the Institute of Economics in Leningrad.
Since 1987 he held various positions in government agencies and was elected to parliament in 1990. In 1998 he was appointed Central Bank governor and held the job until 2008.
