Armenia posts 4.0% inflation rate in 1st halfyear

4.0% inflation rate was recorded in Armenia's consumer market in the first half year of 2014.

Over the reporting period, price increase for consumer products amounted to 2.2%, foodstuff – 1.7%, alcoholic beverages and cigarettes – 7.4%, non-foods 2.4%, services – 8.2%.

In June 2014, the National Statistical Service posted a 1.8% drop in consumer prices against May. Specifically, the 3.1% price drop for foodstuffs in June was caused by price decrease for vegetables and eggs. A price increase for meat and baked products was also posted in July, Armenia Today said.

Over a year, inflation grew by 4,4%, with the services, alcoholic beverages and cigarettes price growing by 8,5% and 7,6% respectively, foodstuffs and essential commodities – 2,6%. Price increase for non-foods stopped at 1,8%.
