Brazil vs Germany World Cup semi-final garners 35.6 million tweets

Last night's World Cup semi-final between Brazil and Germany was the most discussed single sports game in Twitter history, Digital Spy said.

Around 35.6 million tweets were posted during the host's 7-1 thrashing, beating the previous record set during this year's Super Bowl of 24.9 million tweets.

Miroslav Klose was the most mentioned player during the game.

His 23rd minute strike saw him beat Ronaldo's all-time World Cup goal-scoring record. The German now tops the chart with 16 goals.

A new record was also set for tweets per minute, with a peak of 580,166 when Sami Khedira scored Germany's fifth goal on 29 minutes.

The previous peak for the World Cup was 388,985, when Brazil beat Chile 3-2 on penalties in the second round on June 28.
