Armenia’s President expressed serious concerns over Russia's arms sale to Azerbaijan in the course of his visit to Argentine, Tert.am reported.

“It is a very sensitive topic for us, so our people are concerned that our strategic ally sells weapons to Azerbaijan. But I am confident Armenia has enough power and ability to protect its border. Though Russia sells weapons to Baku, I don’t think it will be difficult for the country to fulfill its commitments while we are in a complicated situation,” Serzh Sargsyan said in an interview with the country’s leading newspaper La Nacion.

Asked whether Armenia’s accession to the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union would complicate further relations with Europe, the President said he hopes for that the European partners will show understanding on the issue.

“Clearly, Europe does not favor Armenia’s Customs Union membership. But I am confident that our European partners understand our reasoning behind that step,” he said.

President Sargsyan started his official tour to Latin America on Monday, July 7, travelling to Argentine first. On Tuesday, he left for Uruguay. Later today (July 10), the President will head to Chile where he will spend three days.
